Ron MacMaken’s suggestion for navigating the issue of student access to computers: combine school computer lab visits with a parent agreement. He asks parents to sign a form stating that given a two day “window of opportunity” they will provide access for homework assignments requiring a computer. Students can use their home computer, borrow access via a neighbor’s or friend’s workstation, or visit the public library to use a computer.
